Syria Temporarily Closes Border Crossing After Israeli Threat of Attack

Syrian authorities have ordered the closure of the border crossing linking to Lebanon after Israel warned of an impending attack on the crossing and instructed residents to evacuate the area.

Foreign news agencies report that Syria has temporarily shut the Masnaa border crossing on the Syria-Lebanon border following an evacuation order issued by the Israeli military on Saturday, 4 Apr 2026 GMT+7, due to an upcoming airstrike in the area.

“Because Hezbollah is using the Masnaa crossing for military purposes and smuggling weapons, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) intend to carry out an airstrike on this crossing in the near future,” said Avichay Adraee, the IDF Arabic-language spokesperson.

“Remaining in this area will put you in danger,” Adraee warned.

Following this warning from the IDF, the Syrian Border and Customs Office announced the temporary closure of the Masnaa crossing, known on the Syrian side as the 'Jadet Yabus Crossing.'

The Syrian Border and Customs Office confirmed that the Masnaa crossing is designated exclusively for civilian transit. “This crossing is not used for any military purposes and has no armed groups or local forces stationed there. Additionally, it is not permitted for any activities outside the legal framework and civilian operations.”

The statement further noted that the reopening of the crossing will be announced “immediately once the situation is confirmed to be stable.”

Previously, the Masnaa crossing was closed once last month due to concerns it might be targeted by Israeli artillery fire, but it was later reopened after no attacks occurred.
