Donald Trump stressed to Fox News that the deadline for Iran to reach an agreement and reopen the Strait of Hormuz is by this Monday. He also revealed the reason why the U.S. military attacked a key Iranian bridge a few days ago.
On 5 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Donald Trump, President of the United States, gave a telephone interview to Trey Yingst, a reporter from Fox News, emphasizing that the deadline for Iran to reach an agreement and reopen the Strait of Hormuz is by Monday, 6 Apr 2026 GMT+7. Otherwise, they will face attacks on their energy infrastructure.
Trump told Yingst that the Iranian officials negotiating with the U.S., who would be part of the deal, were offered limited amnesty. However, if they still refuse to agree, the U.S. will seize Iranian oil, a measure Trump had mentioned previously.
Trump also said that Iran tried to postpone the negotiation schedule, which he identified as the reason behind the bridge attack last week. Additionally, Trump said there is a “good chance” to reach a deal by the Monday deadline, even though Iranian officials have not publicly signaled that an agreement is near.
Previously, Trump had threatened to attack various Iranian power plants if Tehran did not reopen this critical shipping route. He first issued the threat in late March, giving a 48-hour deadline, then extended it several times before moving it again to 6 April, citing that negotiations were "progressing well."
