Iran has responded to Donald Trump's threats, asserting that the Strait of Hormuz will only reopen once Iran has received full compensation for war damages. Iran also called on the international community to collectively stop the United States.
On 5 Apr 2026 GMT+7, senior Iranian officials responded to the latest ultimatum from U.S. President Donald Trump, stating that the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global oil shipping route, will "open" again only after Iran receives full compensation for war damages.
Earlier this morning, Trump sent a message full of vulgar language threatening Iran, warning that the upcoming Tuesday "will be a day of power plant bombings and bridge destructions all in one day in Iran. It will be something the world has never seen before!!!"
"Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you will be sent straight to hell — just watch!" Trump said via Truth Social.
In response, Mehdi Tabatabaei, Deputy Director of Communications at Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s office, said the U.S. leader resorted to crude language out of "desperation and extreme anger," accusing Trump of igniting full-scale war in the Middle East.
"The Strait of Hormuz will reopen only when the war damages forced upon us have been fully compensated under a new legal regime, deducted from the revenue share of transit fees," Tabatabaei posted on X.
Previously, Iranian officials stated they would impose transit fees in exchange for safe passage of certain oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, despite opposition from various governments and maritime industry experts.
Meanwhile, Iran's United Nations delegation said Trump's message constitutes an open threat that the U.S. intends to destroy critical infrastructure necessary for Iranian civilians' survival.
"The international community and all states have a legal obligation to prevent such brutal war crimes. They must act now, or tomorrow may be too late," the delegation said in a statement.
