Iran-Linked Armed Group Attacks U.S. Diplomats in Iraq

U.S. authorities revealed that an armed group linked to Iran attacked U.S. diplomats in Iraq once again, urging the Iraqi government to take action to stop these attacks.

On 5 Apr 2026 GMT+7, a U.S. State Department spokesperson stated that an armed group connected to Iran targeted U.S. diplomats and facilities in Iraq twice last night, amid the ongoing conflict between the U.S. and Iran.

“Amid abhorrent terrorist attacks against our diplomatic personnel, we have called on the Iraqi government to immediately fulfill its responsibilities to halt attacks on U.S. sites and prevent armed terrorist groups from using Iraqi territory as a base for assaults,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

“We will not hesitate to defend our personnel and facilities if the Iraqi government fails to meet its obligations,” the spokesperson added, without specifying the exact locations of the attacks.

However, CNN reports that the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil, and the diplomatic support center in Baghdad have all faced multiple attacks since the war between the U.S., Israel, and Iran erupted on 28 Feb.

Last week, the U.S. State Department announced a reward of up to $3 million for information related to attacks on U.S. diplomatic facilities in Iraq.
