Italian Airports Limit Aviation Fuel Usage Amid Global Energy Crisis

Local Italian media report that restrictions on aviation fuel usage have come into effect at Bologna Airport, Milan Linate Airport, Treviso Airport, and Venice Airport following the energy crisis.

Reports state that Air BP Italy, one of the world's largest aviation fuel suppliers, issued a NOTAM to airlines announcing limited fuel allocation until 9 April. Priority refueling will be given to air ambulance flights, government flights, and flights exceeding three hours. This measure is now effective at Bologna, Milan Linate, Treviso, and Venice airports.

This measure follows Iran's blockade of most oil tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint that handles about 20% of the world's oil and gas transportation. This action is expected to pressure energy markets for several months.

European Union Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen warned this week that the disruption caused by the closure of this route may prevent fuel prices from returning to normal in the near future.
