Iran Rejects Ceasefire Proposal, Insists on Permanent End to War

Iran has rejected a temporary ceasefire proposal, seeing it as an opportunity for the opposing side to regroup. The country insists the war must end decisively.

On 6 April 2026 GMT+7, Iran’s IRNA news agency reported that Iranian authorities have dismissed a ceasefire proposal in the war involving the United States and Israel. Tehran affirmed its desire for a permanent resolution to the conflict rather than a temporary truce. According to the report, Iran conveyed its response to the U.S. proposal through Pakistan in the form of ten points but did not disclose details. Iran reaffirmed its opposition to a ceasefire and stressed the necessity of decisively ending the war.

Esmaeil Baqaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that a temporary ceasefire would allow the adversary to rest and prepare for further fighting. He emphasized that Iran seeks to end the war and prevent its recurrence in the future.

Media reports indicated there was previously a 45-day ceasefire proposal structured as a two-phase agreement that might have led to ending the war. However, Iran viewed the U.S. offer as exaggerated and unreasonable. Iran also remarked that it has had poor experiences negotiating with the United States and that diplomatic talks cannot proceed alongside threats or the use of force.

Meanwhile, Iranian military spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Ebrahim Solfagari warned that if civilian targets are attacked again, Iran will respond broadly, with damages escalating significantly.

This move by Iranian authorities follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to strike critical Iranian infrastructure if the shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz is not opened.
