Tragic Easter in Germany: Storm Topples Giant Tree onto Easter Egg Hunt Crowd, Killing 3 Including a 10-Month-Old Infant

A tragic incident occurred on Easter in Germany when a strong windstorm caused a large tree to topple onto people taking part in an Easter egg hunt, resulting in three deaths including a 10-month-old infant.

The incident happened on Sunday morning local time near a forest close to the town of Satrupholm in northern Germany. Police stated that about 50 people were participating in the event, mostly new mothers, pregnant women, and children from a state welfare center.

Reports indicated that a tree approximately 30 meters tall was blown over by strong winds, unexpectedly falling onto the group of participants, trapping four people beneath it.

Rescue teams rushed to assist, but a 21-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl were found dead at the scene. The 21-year-old woman’s 10-month-old daughter later died at the hospital. An 18-year-old woman was critically injured and was airlifted to the hospital by helicopter.

The event venue is part of the state’s child welfare system that supports pregnant women and new mothers needing care. After the incident, a psychological counseling team was immediately dispatched to the site.

Local media images showed Easter eggs and handmade baskets scattered throughout the area, reflecting the loss caused by this unexpected tragedy.

The mayor of Mittelangeln, Britta Lang, expressed deep sorrow, saying she was speechless about what happened. She noted that no one wants to see young lives lost on Easter, which should be a time of joy and hope, but for this community, it has become a time of mourning.

Before the incident, the area had been under a strong wind warning issued by the German Meteorological Service. Meanwhile, the government of Schleswig-Holstein issued a statement expressing profound condolences to the families of the deceased and the injured.

Governor Daniel Günther, together with Interior Minister Magdalena Finke and Youth and Family Minister Aminata Touré, said they were deeply shocked by this tragic event and sent their sympathies to the families of the dead and injured, as well as everyone affected by this heartbreaking incident.
