Irans Supreme Leader Expresses Condolences, Vows Revenge for Intelligence Chief Killed by Israel

Iran's Supreme Leader mourned the death of the IRGC intelligence chief and reiterated refusal of a ceasefire deal, while the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced it would retaliate.

On 7 April 2026, Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran's Supreme Leader, expressed sorrow over the death of Major General Majid Kadhimi, head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) intelligence unit, killed in an Israeli attack. In a statement broadcast on state television, the Iranian leader said Major General Kadhimi stood at the forefront of self-sacrificing warriors, reflecting the loss of senior Iranian leaders killed in ongoing attacks.

Reports indicate that the Iranian leader has not appeared publicly or spoken since succeeding his father. Meanwhile, Iran's official IRNA news agency confirmed that Iran rejected the latest ceasefire proposal and continues to insist on a permanent end to the war.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced plans to retaliate following the death of their intelligence chief in the Israeli attack on 7 April. The intelligence unit’s statement said those behind the attack would face a major counterattack under an operation named “Crushing Revenge,” warning that retaliation would target both the planners and perpetrators.
