The White House confirmed that the US military has launched a second attack on Iran's Kharg Island, stating the strikes targeted military objectives and not oil facilities.
Foreign news agencies reported on 7 Apr 2026 that the White House and US officials revealed the US conducted a military strike on Iran's Kharg Island on Monday night local time, affirming that the attack did not target Iran's oil facilities.
Previously, the US attacked Kharg Island on 13 March. At that time, the US Central Command announced that 90 targets were struck, including naval mine storage, missile bunkers, and various other military sites.
Kharg Island is a small island in the Persian Gulf, about 24 kilometers off Iran's coast, but it holds great economic significance as the center for nearly all of Iran’s crude oil exports.
Data indicates that Iran, the fourth-largest oil producer within OPEC, exports about nine out of every ten barrels through this island, with export volumes around 1.5 million barrels per day, primarily destined for China.
