Iranian media confirm that the U.S. attack on Kharg Island, a major oil transport center of Iran, caused only minor damage.
On 7 Apr 2026 GMT+7, several Iranian media outlets cited local sources reporting that an assessment of damage on Kharg Island after the U.S. bombing on Monday night (6 Apr) found that most of the infrastructure at this key oil transport center remains intact.
Mehr News Agency, a semi-official Iranian outlet, reported that about 90% of the marine infrastructure on the island, which manages Iran's oil exports, sustained only minor damage from the U.S. bombing and continues to operate normally.
However, on Tuesday, NASA's Fire Information for Resource Management System (FIRMS) detected multiple fires near the southern tip and western coast of Kharg Island, though no official damage confirmation has been made.
Earlier, U.S. officials told CNN that the strike last night targeted military objectives and did not attack oil facilities on Kharg Island.
This marks the second time the U.S. has struck Kharg Island since the war erupted on 28 Feb. The first attack occurred in March, when U.S. Central Command stated that it targeted over 90 sites including ammunition depots, missile storage, and other military locations.
