Iran Agrees to Open Strait of Hormuz During Two-Week Ceasefire

Iranian ministers confirmed that they will agree to a two-week ceasefire following the US and Israel, provided attacks on Iran stop, and that they will open the Strait of Hormuz during this ceasefire period.

On 8 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Abbas Araghchi, Iran's Foreign Minister, announced that Iran will agree to a two-week ceasefire "if attacks on Iran cease," adding, "During this two-week period, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible."

Araghchi emphasized that passage through the strait will occur through coordination with the Iranian military and must consider technical limitations as appropriate.

The Iranian Foreign Minister also expressed gratitude to Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Commander Asim Munir for their efforts in urging Trump to declare this ceasefire.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council issued a statement declaring victory, claiming Iran successfully pressured the US to accept their 10-point plan.

The 10-point plan "highlights fundamental issues" such as "orderly passage through the Strait of Hormuz under coordination with the Iranian military," which will grant Iran a "prominent economic and geopolitical status."
