Iran Confirms Start of Talks with U.S. in Islamabad on 10 April Following 10-Point Framework

Iranian authorities confirmed that talks with the United States began in Islamabad, Pakistan, on 10 April, following a 10-point proposal framework. At the same time, the U.S. delayed attacks to pave the way for conflict resolution.

On 8 April 2026, Iran's National Security Council issued a statement saying the talks with the U.S. occurred after both sides agreed to a two-week ceasefire, using this period to discuss details aiming to reach a long-term agreement.

President Donald Trump stated that the U.S. would temporarily halt attacks on Iran and considered the 10-point proposal a “foundation for negotiation,” emphasizing that a key condition is the immediate and safe reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital global oil shipping route, with about 20% of the world's oil passing through it. Partial blockage by Iran following attacks in late February caused energy prices to surge and shortages in several countries.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that if attacks on Iran ceased, Iranian forces would stop retaliatory actions and coordinate to ensure navigation through the Strait of Hormuz could continue.

Meanwhile, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif revealed that both sides agreed to an immediate ceasefire across all fronts and invited delegations to negotiate in Pakistan. Iran's 10-point proposal covers key issues such as lifting all sanctions, withdrawing U.S. troops from the region, compensating war damages, and granting Iran control over the Strait of Hormuz.

However, Iran emphasized that despite participating in talks, it still does not fully trust the U.S. and is prepared to respond immediately if the opposing side makes any mistakes. The initial talks will last two weeks and may be extended if both parties agree.
