Israel's opposition has criticized Netanyahu's government for failing to meet its war objectives, calling the ceasefire agreement with Iran a major political disaster.
On 8 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Yair Lapid, leader of Israel's opposition party, strongly condemned the ceasefire agreement with Iran, describing it as a “political disaster” and reflecting the failure of the government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Lapid stated that Israel had almost no involvement in the decision-making process concerning national security issues and questioned the government's role in the negotiations. He added that such a political disaster had never before occurred in Israel's history.
He further noted that while the Israeli military had fully carried out its missions and the public showed resilience, the Netanyahu government had failed politically and strategically, unable to achieve the war objectives it had set.
Previously, Netanyahu had stated that Israel supported President Donald Trump's decision to suspend attacks on Iran for two weeks, on the condition that Iran immediately open the Strait and cease attacks against the US, Israel, and regional allies. He emphasized that Israel agreed with US efforts to ensure Iran would no longer pose a nuclear, missile, or terrorist threat to America, Israel, neighboring Arab countries, and the world.
