U.S. Defense Secretary Affirms Victory in Iran War, Confirms Strait of Hormuz Reopened

The U.S. Secretary of Defense confirmed that the United States won the war against Iran and that Donald Trump truly had plans to destroy Iranian civilization before the deadline was extended by two weeks.

On 8 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Pete Hegseth, the U.S. Secretary of Defense, held a joint press conference with General Dan Ken, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, at the Pentagon. They disclosed various details about the war in Iran following a declared two-week ceasefire by both sides.

When asked by reporters about President Donald Trump's threat that “Iranian civilization will be wiped out” if no agreement is reached, and whether the President was prepared to follow through, Hegseth replied, “We have set targets: infrastructure, bridges, and power plants. Everything is ready, targets locked, and ammunition loaded.”

General Ken stated he believes the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial oil transport route and key to U.S. negotiations, has resumed normal operation today.

Hegseth added that under the ceasefire terms announced yesterday, any nuclear materials that Iran “should not possess” must be eliminated. However, Iranian authorities did not mention this condition in their official statements.

The U.S. Secretary of Defense also confirmed that the United States emerged victorious in the war with Iran and has destroyed nearly all of Iran’s military forces, although CNN reported that U.S. intelligence assesses Iran still maintains its main missile capabilities.

General Ken added that the U.S. military remains ready "if ordered or called upon to resume combat operations," concluding, "We hope that will not be necessary."
