Trump Declares 2-Week Ceasefire Excludes Israeli Attacks on Lebanon

Donald Trump confirmed that the two-week ceasefire between the U.S., Israel, and Iran does not include Lebanon, while Israel continues to attack Lebanon, prompting Iran to threaten retaliatory measures.

On 8 Apr 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters about the ceasefire with Iran and addressed the ongoing debate over whether Israel's attacks on Lebanon are included. The U.S. leader replied, "They are not included."

"Yes, they are not part of the agreement," Trump said in a PBS News Hour interview via phone on Wednesday morning. "Because of Hezbollah, they are not in this deal. That issue will be handled as well. It's okay."

Earlier, on Tuesday, senior White House officials told CNN that Israel agreed to suspend bombings while talks continue. However, Trump seemed to accept that Israel would continue its attacks on Lebanon in the meantime.

In contrast, just hours ago, Iranian media reported that Tehran has suspended oil tanker passage through the Strait of Hormuz after Israel launched its most intense airstrikes on Beirut, Lebanon. The reports also stated that the government is considering measures to respond to Israel's ceasefire violations.

Since the conflict between Israel and Iran erupted on 28 Feb, Israeli attacks on Lebanon have killed at least 1,530 people and injured 4,812. These figures do not include casualties from the latest strikes on Wednesday, which Lebanon's Health Minister said caused hundreds of deaths and injuries.
