The White House spokesperson revealed that Donald Trump once proposed the idea that the U.S. should receive revenue from the Strait of Hormuz, and this topic will be discussed during the two-week ceasefire.
On 8 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Caroline Leavitt, White House spokesperson, held a press briefing to provide updates on the Middle East conflict. She stated that President Donald Trump had "proposed" the idea that the U.S. should receive revenue from the Strait of Hormuz, and this issue will be brought up for discussion in the next two weeks.
"This is a matter that will be continuously discussed over the next two weeks, but what the President prioritizes most right now is reopening the Strait of Hormuz without any restrictions, whether in the form of transit fees or other types," Leavitt told reporters.
The White House spokesperson also defended Trump’s threat to wipe out Iranian civilization, saying, "I understand the questions about the President's rhetoric, but what he focuses on most is the results. The truth is that his tough rhetoric and decisive negotiation style are what have produced the results we see today."
In response to further questions, Leavitt said the world "should take his words seriously to understand that the President always prioritizes results first." She added that Trump "holds a complete moral high ground over Iran’s terrorist regime," despite criticism of his language.
When asked about Trump's warning to wipe out civilization, Leavitt said, "That is a very strong threat from the U.S. President, which has forced the Iranian regime to surrender to the point of kneeling to request a ceasefire and agree to reopen the Strait of Hormuz."
