A large-scale Israeli attack in Lebanon has resulted in 182 deaths and hundreds of injuries, while Iran has called on Israel to stop the strikes or face retaliatory measures.
Foreign news agencies reported on 8 Apr 2026 GMT+7 that Israel launched widespread airstrikes across Lebanon, causing hundreds of casualties. Israeli officials stated that the war with Hezbollah will continue despite a ceasefire declaration with Iran.
Israel described this as the largest air assault in the ongoing conflict since it began on 28 Feb, striking over 100 targets within just 10 minutes, which Israel claims are Hezbollah command centers and military sites.
The targeted areas included suburban districts south of Beirut, southern Lebanon, and the Bekaa Valley to the east.
Lebanon's Ministry of Public Health reported at least 182 deaths and 890 injuries from the Israeli attacks, with expectations that the death toll will rise as rescue teams continue searching for survivors trapped under the rubble.
The attacks followed a rejection by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office of Pakistan’s mediation claims—acting as an intermediary between the US and Iran—that the ceasefire agreement also covers the conflict in Lebanon.
Meanwhile, in Washington, White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt stated that Lebanon was not included in the ceasefire agreement.
However, Iran insists the ceasefire in Lebanon is part of the agreement and has warned Israel of retaliatory actions should the attacks on Lebanon persist.
Hezbollah declared it has the right to respond and cautioned displaced families to await an official ceasefire announcement before attempting to return home.
The Lebanese presidential office stated it will continue "efforts to integrate Lebanon into the region's peace process."
The latest wave of attacks has raised the death toll in Lebanon since the recent conflict erupted to at least 1,710, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health, including at least 130 children. Israel claims to have killed over 1,100 Hezbollah fighters.
Additionally, more than 1.2 million people, or one-fifth of Lebanon's population, have been displaced due to the Israeli attacks.
