182 Killed as Israel Launches Major Strikes in Lebanon, 890 Injured

A major wave of Israeli attacks in Lebanon has resulted in 182 deaths and hundreds more injured, while Iran has called on Israel to stop its attacks or face retaliatory measures.

Foreign news agencies reported on 8 Apr 2026 GMT+7 that Israel launched widespread airstrikes across Lebanon, causing hundreds of deaths and injuries. Israeli officials stated that the war with the Hezbollah group will continue despite a ceasefire having been declared with Iran.

Israel described this as the largest air assault in this conflict, which began on 28 Feb, striking over 100 targets within just 10 minutes. Israel claimed these were command centers and military locations belonging to Hezbollah.

The targeted sites included southern suburbs of Beirut, southern Lebanon, and the Bekaa Valley to the east.

Lebanon's Ministry of Public Health reported that Israeli attacks have so far killed at least 182 people and injured 890, with the death toll expected to rise as rescue teams continue searching for survivors trapped under rubble.

These strikes came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office denied Pakistan's claims, which served as mediator between the US and Iran, that the ceasefire agreement also covered the conflict in Lebanon.

Meanwhile, in Washington, White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt said that Lebanon was not part of the ceasefire agreement.

However, Iran affirmed that the ceasefire in Lebanon was included in the agreement and warned Israel that it would face retaliatory actions if attacks in Lebanon persist.

Hezbollah stated that it reserves the right to respond and advised displaced families to wait for an official ceasefire announcement before attempting to return home.

The Lebanese presidential office declared it will continue efforts to include Lebanon in the region's peace process.

These latest attacks have raised the death toll in Lebanon since the new wave of conflict began to at least 1,710, according to Lebanon's Ministry of Public Health. This figure includes at least 130 children, while Israel claims to have killed over 1,100 Hezbollah fighters.

Additionally, over 1.2 million people, or about one-fifth of Lebanon's population, have been displaced due to Israeli attacks.
