Chief Negotiator Negotiations Iran's chief negotiator accuses the United States of violating three ceasefire conditions within 24 hours, calling the agreement meaningless and at risk of collapse, and describing the situation as unsuitable for negotiations.
On 9 April 2026, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, revealed that three conditions in Iran's 10-point ceasefire proposal were "clearly" violated, making the current situation unsuitable for advancing negotiations or the planned bilateral ceasefire agreement scheduled in Pakistan on 11 April.
Ghalibaf pointed out that a key issue is including the situation in Lebanon within the agreement, which the U.S. side rejects. Another issue involves reports of drone sightings in Fars province in southern Iran. However, the Israeli military has stated it is unaware of these incidents. Additionally, Iran's right to enhance uranium enrichment, outlined in the Iranian National Security Council's proposal, remains a point of contention with Western parties.
Ghalibaf's comments reflect ongoing tensions amid the enforcement of a two-week ceasefire intended to pave the way for negotiations, following the outbreak of conflict between the U.S. and Israel against Iran that began on 28 February after the latest nuclear deal talks collapsed.
There are unconfirmed reports that the administration of former President Donald Trump once considered Ghalibaf as a potential key political figure in Iran's future.
