Malaysian authorities arrested six suspects, including a senior police officer, for armed robbery targeting wealthy foreign nationals, with total losses estimated at around 40 million baht.
This shocking incident occurred in Kuala Lumpur, where Metropolitan Police Commissioner Fadil Marsus revealed that the police officer acted as the group's coordinator. The perpetrators impersonated police officers to gain access to victims' homes in the Kepong area during the early morning of 5 April.
Reports state that the group seized numerous valuables, including three luxury cars: a Toyota Alphard, Rolls-Royce, and Bentley. They also took a safe containing 24,200 ringgit in cash, 1,200 US dollars, as well as jewelry, gold bars, and other valuable property.
The victims were two Chinese nationals (one male, one female) and an Indonesian woman aged between 29 and 52. It was reported that one suspect threatened the victims with a gun-like device during the robbery.
The arrested police officer has been suspended and was found to have a prior drug-related record. Two other suspects, who hold firearm licenses and work as bodyguards, supplied weapons to the group.
Authorities apprehended the first three suspects on the night of 5 April, seizing evidence including two pistols, five vehicles, cash in various currencies totaling 13,056 ringgit, eight mobile phones, and two security access cards.
Further investigations led to the arrest of three more suspects aged between 31 and 51, with one testing positive for amphetamines.
All suspects are held for seven days for further questioning. The case falls under criminal laws sections 395 and 397, relating to gang robbery and use of violence, as well as section 170 for impersonating government officials. Conviction could result in up to 20 years imprisonment, whipping, and additional fines.
