International Community Condemns Israels Major Attack on Lebanon Causing Thousands of Casualties

Countries worldwide have increasingly condemned Israel after its largest attack on Lebanon, which resulted in thousands of deaths and injuries last Wednesday.

CNN reported on 9 Apr 2026 that international criticism of Israel's largest airstrike on Lebanon last Wednesday, killing at least 182 and injuring 890, is intensifying, as it threatens the fragile ceasefire between the US, Israel, and Iran.

Pakistan condemned the attack, affirming that Lebanon should be protected under the ceasefire agreement that Pakistan helped mediate. However, the governments of Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel stated that the ceasefire agreement does not cover operations targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Reactions from European countries

where France President Emmanuel Macron condemned the attack as a "non-discriminatory" strike and said the act "directly threatens the sustainability of the ceasefire agreement."

Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said Israel's attack "caused severe damage" and stressed that the UK wants Lebanon to be included in the ceasefire agreement.

where Spain Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, who has consistently opposed war with Iran, said Netanyahu's "disregard for the value of life and international law is unacceptable."

in Italy Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani called Lebanese President Joseph Aoun directly to express condolences over the "unjustified attack," adding, "We want to avoid Lebanon becoming a second Gaza."

Reactions from Middle Eastern countries

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) affirmed its support for the Lebanese government, backing its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and expressed concern over the escalating situation that threatens regional security.

In Qatar the Foreign Ministry condemned the "brutal" attack and called on the international community to collectively pressure Israel to "end the savage massacre."

Meanwhile, Turkey issued its strongest condemnation of Israel, accusing Netanyahu's government of undermining international efforts to build peace.

International organizations

at the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned Israel's attack and called for an end to the fighting, warning it risks collapsing the ceasefire agreement.

Meanwhile, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) expressed being "outraged" by the death and destruction occurring in densely populated areas throughout Lebanon.
