Netanyahu Affirms No Ceasefire with Lebanon Despite Ordering Direct Talks

The Israeli Prime Minister confirmed that there will be no ceasefire with Lebanon, despite having ordered officials to promptly begin direct negotiations with Lebanon to disarm Hezbollah and improve relations.

On 9 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated that there is no ceasefire with Lebanon, even though he had previously revealed that he instructed the cabinet to start direct negotiations aimed at disarming Hezbollah and developing relations with Lebanon.

“I want to tell you that there is no ceasefire in Lebanon. We are continuing to carry out intense attacks on Hezbollah, and we will not stop until we restore your security,” Netanyahu said in a video message released Thursday evening (local time).

The Israeli Prime Minister also stated that he requested direct talks with the Lebanese government aimed at disarming Hezbollah and achieving a “historic and lasting peace agreement.” He added, “I have already made four peace agreements with Arab countries, and I intend to make more.”

Earlier, a Lebanese official told CNN, “There will be no negotiations under a hail of bullets,” responding to Israel’s plan to start direct talks.

On Thursday, the Israeli military continued its attacks on Lebanon and issued new evacuation orders for some areas south of Beirut.

On Wednesday, Israel launched its largest wave of attacks in Lebanon since the conflict began, resulting in over 300 deaths and 1,150 injuries nationwide. Israel stated its targets were 100 Hezbollah military command centers and strongholds.
