Sultan Al Jaber, CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, has called on Iran to immediately open the shipping route "without conditions" after the world's key energy strait remains controlled and restricted.
Sultan Al Jaber, CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and UAE Minister of Industry, stated that the Strait of Hormuz, a major global oil transit route, is still not operating normally. Passage depends on conditions, permissions, and political pressure from Iran. He condemned this as not freedom of navigation but coercion.
Al Jaber also urged Iran to take responsibility for damage caused by attacks on the region's energy infrastructure, emphasizing that closing or controlling the Strait of Hormuz poses a serious risk to global economic stability.
He stated that the strait must be fully open, without conditions or restrictions, because global energy security depends on this route, which before the war was considered international waters open to all.
A Reuters report noted that since the US-Israel war began in late February, closure of the Strait of Hormuz has caused UAE oil production to fall by more than half.
Although higher oil prices have helped sustain revenue, the reduced output has tightened the global energy market, while over 230 oil tankers loaded with cargo are waiting to pass through the strait but remain unable to do so.
Besides the UAE, energy infrastructure in neighboring countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain has also been affected by attacks.
This situation increases pressure to urgently reopen the shipping route to avoid economic ripple effects that could spread globally.
Previously, maritime experts told CNN that uncertainty over a ceasefire agreement keeps passage through the Strait of Hormuz highly risky.
Meanwhile, Iran insists that passage must be coordinated with Iranian forces and comply with technical restrictions, with no clear plan to guarantee navigation safety, leaving each vessel to wait and assess the situation.
