Shock as Over 250 Dogs Found Cramped in a House Animal Welfare Group Confirms Images Are Real, Not AI-Generated

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) in the UK confirmed that images showing over 250 poodle-mix dogs kept in cramped conditions inside a home are genuine, after social media users questioned whether the photos were AI-generated. Recently, the overall condition of the dogs has surprisingly improved, and many have been cared for and rehomed.

The RSPCA and the Dogs Trust charity have provided updates on the rescue of over 250 poodle-mix dogs, known as "Doodles," found living in overcrowded conditions inside a living room of a UK home earlier this year. They reported that most dogs have greatly improved and many have already moved into warm new homes.

Photos taken by rescue workers that went viral showed a massive number of dogs crowded into a limited space. Social media users questioned their authenticity, suspecting AI fabrication, but the RSPCA confirmed the images depict a real situation reflecting the "shocking reality" of pet overpopulation, which has risen by 70% in England and Wales since 2021.

Lee Hopwood, RSPCA's head of operations, said that although the dogs were initially found with matted fur and wounds, they have "recovered very well" and show surprisingly restored mental health.

On the BBC Breakfast program on 9 Apr 2024 GMT+7, "Boon," one of the rescued dogs now adopted by a former RSPCA officer, was introduced. The new owner said that Boon initially weighed below normal, had inflamed ears and eyes, and sadly had never experienced a leash or car ride before; it had to be carried due to fear of unfamiliar external stimuli encountered for the first time in its life.

The RSPCA stated that pet overpopulation cases often stem from multiple causes such as owners’ mental health issues, cost-of-living crises limiting proper animal care, and unregulated breeding farms, particularly due to the popularity of "Doodle" mixed breeds, ranked among the top favorite dogs in 2025.

However, in this case, the RSPCA decided not to pursue legal action against the owners, considering them a highly vulnerable group and that the situation escalated beyond control due to difficult family circumstances.

Currently, most of the 250 dogs have received care and behavior training and have been rehomed, but some remain under the care of Dogs Trust, especially mother dogs who recently gave birth after rescue.
