On 11 Apr 2026 GMT+7, BBC News reported that an Iranian delegation led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf arrived in Islamabad, Pakistan, to prepare for negotiations with the U.S. this weekend amid efforts to end the Middle East conflict.
Also present were Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister who has played a key role in nuclear talks with Western countries, and Abdolnaser Hemmati, the Central Bank governor. Iran emphasized its main demand for the complete lifting of sanctions. The Iranian economy continues to suffer severely from the war and sanctions, alongside domestic internet restrictions imposed since the conflict began in late February.
President Donald Trump stated that negotiations are the only way for Iran to survive. Meanwhile, J.D. Vance, en route to join the discussions, affirmed the U.S. is willing to negotiate if Iran shows sincerity but warned against accepting any attempts at deception.
