Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament and head of the senior negotiation team, signaled before starting talks with the U.S. in Pakistan that Iran is sincere but still distrustful of the American side.
Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, told Iranian government media after arriving at Islamabad airport to join the highly watched talks amid Middle East tensions, “We are sincere, but we do not trust the U.S.”
Ghalibaf said Iran remains hopeful about these negotiations and is ready to open the way to an agreement if the U.S. shows genuine sincerity.
However, he stressed that past experience makes Iran very cautious in negotiating with the U.S., as previous talks often ended in failure, violations of agreements, or unfulfilled obligations.
Iran's stance reflects deep-rooted distrust despite opening the door for talks, while the meeting in Pakistan could be a crucial moment in shaping the direction of regional conflicts.
