Iranian media confirm that negotiations between Iranian and US officials in Pakistan have begun amid hopes that these talks will lead to an end to the war in the Middle East.
On 11 April 2026, Iran's government broadcaster IRIB reported that negotiations between delegations from Iran and the United States have started in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, though it remains unclear whether these are direct talks or conducted through intermediaries.
If confirmed as direct negotiations, these talks would represent the highest-level face-to-face discussions between Iran and the US since the establishment of the Islamic Republic in 1979.
These discussions occur amid a still fragile ceasefire, with neither side yet confirming the scope of the negotiations.
Earlier, US Vice President J.D. Vance, leading the US delegation, and senior Iranian officials met separately with Pakistan's Prime Minister. The talks are expected to last one day, with Iran closely assessing the US stance, meaning the direction of the talks remains dependent on developments throughout the day.
