Trump posted a message claiming that the U.S. is "clearing the area in the Strait of Hormuz" without specifying what that means, while U.S. and Iranian representatives are negotiating in Pakistan.
On 11 Apr 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social stating that the U.S. is "clearing the area in the Strait of Hormuz," while Iran's official IRIB television reported that the highly watched negotiations between U.S. and Iranian representatives in Pakistan have already begun.
"We are now starting the process of clearing the area in the Strait of Hormuz to assist countries around the world, including China, Japan, South Korea, France, Germany, and many others. It's incredible that they lack the courage or determination to do this themselves," Trump's post stated.
However, it remains unclear what exactly Trump means by "clearing the area" in the strait.
Trump's post also added, "Interestingly, empty oil tankers from many countries are heading to the United States to 'load oil' for the return journey."
The Strait of Hormuz is a key global oil shipping route, transporting about 20% of the world's oil. Keeping this strait open was a critical condition in the latest ceasefire agreement between the U.S. and Iran. However, so far, only a few ships have passed through it.
