Iranian Media Reports New Round of Talks with U.S. Begins Amid Key Sticking Points

Iranian media report that representatives from both the U.S. and Iran have commenced a new round of trilateral negotiations, yet several key sticking points remain unresolved, including matters concerning the Strait of Hormuz.

On 11 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Tasnim News Agency, a semi-official Iranian outlet, reported that U.S. and Iranian negotiating teams have begun a new round of trilateral talks in Islamabad, with Pakistani officials acting as mediators, following the conclusion of initial discussions.

However, the report indicated that significant challenges remain, pointing to what it called the U.S.'s "overreaching demands," which could hinder progress toward reaching an agreement.

"Given the U.S.'s overreaching demands, this appears to be the Iranian team's last chance to establish a cooperative framework for this round of talks," Tasnim stated, without providing further details.

Previously, U.S.-based CNN reported, citing Pakistani sources, that the overall atmosphere and outcomes of the talks in Islamabad have largely been positive, although a deadlock persists concerning control of the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, sources close to the Iranian negotiating team told CNN that the U.S. has presented "unacceptable demands" regarding the Strait and several other issues.

Other Iranian media outlets have conveyed similar perspectives. The semi-official Mehr News Agency reported that the U.S. has made "overreaching demands" toward the Iranian negotiators, while the state-run IRIB news agency indicated that the U.S. is "taking an excessively aggressive approach in this round of negotiations."
