Donald Trump warned China that it will face major problems if it supplies weapons to Iran, amid reports that Beijing is preparing to do so.
On 11 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Donald Trump, President of the United States, told CNN reporters that China would face a “major problem” if it proceeds to send weapons to Iran, while negotiations between the U.S. and Iran in Pakistan to find a way to end the Middle East war continue.
CNN reporter Betsy Klein asked Trump about U.S. intelligence indicating that the Chinese government is preparing to send weapons to Iran. The U.S. leader responded, “If China does that, China will have a major problem, do you understand?”
Trump did not specify whether he had discussed this matter with Chinese President Xi Jinping. He is scheduled to visit China next month to meet with Xi.
Earlier on Saturday morning, CNN first reported that U.S. intelligence indicates China is preparing to deliver a new air defense system to Iran within the next few weeks, according to three sources familiar with the latest U.S. intelligence assessments.
The intelligence highlights that Iran may be taking advantage of the ceasefire period to replenish certain weapons stockpiles, with assistance from key foreign allies.
