Donald Trump has threatened to impose a 50% tariff on China if it delivers weapons to Iran, as previously reported. However, the U.S. leader doubts whether China would actually do so because of his good relationship with Chinese leaders.
On 12 Apr 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump warned that China would face a 50% import tariff if it supplied weapons to Iran. However, he expressed doubt that China would really do so, despite U.S. intelligence indicating that China has such plans.
“I’ve heard reports about China delivering shoulder-launched missiles, also known as man-portable air-defense systems,” Trump said, apparently referring to a special CNN report stating that Beijing is preparing to deliver MANPADs to Iran.
“I doubt they will do that because I have a good relationship with them, and I think they won’t do it,” Trump said on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo. “They might do a little at first, but I don’t think they will continue.”
“But if we catch them doing that, they will face a 50% tariff, which is a huge number—a very shocking amount,” Trump added.
CNN reported last Saturday that U.S. intelligence sources indicate China is preparing to deliver new air defense systems to Iran within a few weeks, according to three sources familiar with the intelligence assessment.
