Iranian Military Warns Warships Approaching Strait of Hormuz Will Face Severe Retaliation

The Iranian military has issued a warning that any warship approaching the Strait of Hormuz will face severe retaliation, following U.S. orders to block the strait and begin destroying mines Iran has laid there.

On 12 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that any warship attempting to approach the Strait of Hormuz "will be met with harsh and decisive retaliation," amid renewed tensions with the United States after peace talks in Pakistan ended without a ceasefire agreement.

U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social a few hours earlier that the U.S. would start destroying mines Iran had placed in the Strait of Hormuz, stating, "Any Iranian who fires at us or at peaceful commercial ships will be blown to hell!"

A statement released by the semi-official Fars news agency, closely linked to the IRGC, said that the strait is under Iran's “wise control and management” and remains open for civilian vessels to “navigate safely” as long as they comply with relevant regulations.

The IRGC stated, "Any warship attempting to approach the Strait of Hormuz, regardless of the pretext or reason, will be considered a violation of the ceasefire agreement and will face harsh and decisive retaliation."
