Former CIA Director Calls for Removal of Trump Under 25th Amendment Citing Inappropriate Behavior

John Brennan, former CIA Director, has called for Donald Trump's removal from office, citing inappropriate behavior related to war and threats to destroy Iran. Meanwhile, over 70 Democratic members support invoking the 25th Amendment.

On 13 April 2026, John Brennan, former Director of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), called for the removal of Donald Trump from the presidency, stating that the 25th Amendment was written for people like Trump.

Brennan, who served during Barack Obama's administration, told a television program that Trump's recent remarks threatening to destroy Iranian civilization reflect dangerous and inappropriate behavior for a national leader. He said this individual clearly lacks mental stability. Brennan emphasized that Trump should no longer be allowed to serve as commander-in-chief, given his control over the U.S. military and nuclear weapons.

The 25th Amendment, effective since 1967, allows the vice president and cabinet to remove the president if deemed unfit to perform duties properly. Reports say more than 70 Democratic members of Congress have called for its use. However, the likelihood of removing Trump remains low due to strong support from Vice President JD Vance and the cabinet.
