Trump Claims Iran Called This Morning Saying They Are Eager to Make a Deal

Donald Trump told reporters at the White House that his administration received a phone call from Iran stating, "They are eager to make a deal" after the U.S. began blockading Iranian ports.

On 13 Apr 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump told White House reporters that his government received a call "from the other side" this morning, with the media implying it was from Iran. He added, "They are eager to make a deal."

Trump’s remarks came less than three hours after the U.S. began enforcing a maritime blockade on various Iranian ports and following the failure of marathon talks in Pakistan over the past weekend, which ended without any agreement.

Trump confirmed to reporters that the sticking point in negotiations with the Tehran government was "the nuclear issue," emphasizing, "Iran will never possess nuclear weapons."

"We agreed on many things, but they would not agree on this (nuclear) issue. I think they will eventually agree. I’m almost certain of it—actually, I am certain. If they do not agree, there will be no deal at all. No deal will ever happen," Trump said.

Trump also said another top U.S. priority is to retrieve the enriched uranium still held by Iran. He told reporters, "We will take back those radioactive materials. We will get them back, whether they return them to us willingly or we have to seize them ourselves."
