US Vice President JD Vance condemned Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz as an act of economic terrorism, stating that the decision to end the standoff following negotiations rests with Iran.
JD Vance said the closure of the Strait of Hormuz affects a vital global energy transport route and amounts to economic terrorism. He warned that US President Donald Trump is prepared to respond if Iran continues this measure. He added that if Iran plays this game, the US can respond in kind and will not allow Iranian ships to pass.
At the same time, he emphasized that "the ball is now in Iran’s court," meaning Iran can decide to end the conflict. This comes after weekend talks between the two sides in Pakistan failed to reach an agreement to end the more than five-week-long dispute.
Vance revealed that the US has clearly set two "red lines" that are non-negotiable:
He added that Iran’s mere declaration not to build nuclear weapons is insufficient without reliable verification measures.
The US also expressed expectations that under the two-week temporary ceasefire agreement, Iran will fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
