Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Beijing, China, on Tuesday to discuss major global issues with Chinese leaders, particularly the war situations in the Middle East and Ukraine.
The Russian Foreign Ministry released images of Lavrov’s visit, showing him officially welcomed on a red carpet in the Chinese capital, reflecting the close ties between the two major powers.
During this visit, Sergey Lavrov is scheduled to meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, where both sides will exchange views and coordinate positions on various issues including bilateral relations, cooperation across multiple fields, and important international situations.
Meanwhile, the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that discussions will cover both the war in Ukraine and the tense situation in the Middle East.
Previously, on 5 April, Wang Yi held a phone conversation with Sergey Lavrov, during which both parties agreed to work toward reducing tensions in the Middle East.
On the same day, China also welcomed leaders from several countries affected by war and economic challenges, including Mr. To Lam, President of Vietnam, and Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi.
These developments reflect China’s efforts to expand its diplomatic influence on the global stage amid widespread conflicts.
China and Russia are key economic and political allies, with their partnership growing even closer since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
At the same time, Chinese Premier Li Qiang told leaders from the United Arab Emirates that China is ready to play a constructive role in helping restore peace and stability in the Persian Gulf region.
