A clip reveals the moment the attacker, a former student, carried out a shocking shooting at a school in Turkey, firing indiscriminately as students and teachers fled in panic. Sixteen were injured before the attacker shot himself to avoid capture.
A horrifying school shooting occurred in Turkey when an 18-year-old former student stormed a vocational school in the city of Siverek, Şanlıurfa Province, in the country's southeast, using a shotgun to open fire.
CCTV footage shows the tense moments as the attacker entered the building carrying a long gun and immediately began shooting indiscriminately, causing widespread panic throughout the school.
Witnesses said the attacker fired both left and right before running further inside, shooting at anyone in front of him amid screams from students and teachers desperately trying to escape.
Governor Hasan Şıldak revealed that at least 16 people were injured, including 10 students, 4 teachers, 1 police officer, and 1 cafeteria worker.
After the shooting, police surrounded the school building and cornered the attacker, who then decided to shoot himself dead at the scene.
Reports state that most of the injured remain hospitalized locally, while those in serious condition were transferred to a main city hospital.
So far, the motive remains unclear. Authorities stated the attacker had no criminal record and noted that such school shootings are rare in Turkey.
However, local media reported that the attacker had posted threats on social media prior to the incident. Officials are preparing a thorough investigation to determine the true cause.
