The White House announced the official name of the massive archway as the "United States Triumphal Arch," one of Donald Trump's major projects criticized as a symbol of personal ambition.
The U.S. White House officially announced the name of the giant arch construction project, previously called the "Arc de Trump" by the media, now officially named the "United States Triumphal Arch."
White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt revealed on 15 April that the project is part of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States' declaration of independence.
She stated that Donald Trump and the U.S. Department of the Interior will officially propose the construction plan for the arch, promoting it as a "monumental memorial."
The arch is about 76.2 meters tall and will feature a large golden Statue of Liberty on top, making its total height clearly taller than the famous Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
Once completed, it will become the largest arch in the world, surpassing the Monument to the Revolution and the Arch of Triumph.
The project plan was first revealed last October when reporters discovered a model on the desk in Trump's Oval Office, leading to the nickname "Arc de Trump."
This project is among several architectural initiatives Trump promoted during his second term, including building a large ballroom in the White House and renovating the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
However, opponents have criticized the project as a symbol reflecting Trump's personal ambition, noting that the large golden arch would overshadow the Lincoln Memorial.
Regarding funding, reports state the project will receive some taxpayer money, with an initial budget of 2 million U.S. dollars from the National Endowment for the Humanities and potentially up to 13 million dollars including donations.
Nevertheless, Caroline Leavitt emphasized that the project aims to inspire and reflect national pride, stating the monument will remain to inspire future generations.
