On the date, U.S. President Donald Trump revealed that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a 10-day ceasefire, starting from Thursday evening U.S. time, after his discussions with the leaders of both nations.
On 17 Apr 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun agreed to begin an “official ceasefire” for 10 days starting at 5:00 p.m. Eastern U.S. time.
Trump also stated he will invite Netanyahu and Joseph Aoun to visit the White House for significant talks between Israel and Lebanon, marking the first important dialogue since 1983.
Although the ceasefire was announced, the situation in Lebanon remains fragile due to ongoing clashes between Israel and Hezbollah, despite previous temporary ceasefires involving Iran. However, a Lebanese government official revealed that President Joseph Aoun has refused direct talks with Netanyahu, despite U.S. efforts to facilitate contact between the two leaders.
