Iranian Media Denies Reports of New Negotiation Round in Pakistan

Iran's official IRNA news agency stated that reports about a second round of negotiations with the U.S. in Pakistan are "not true," while Donald Trump said he is sending a team to Islamabad.

On 19 Apr 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that a U.S. delegation is traveling to Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, to hold new talks with Iran. Meanwhile, the U.S. news outlet CNN reported, citing sources in Iran, that Tehran’s delegation is also on its way.

However, later Iran’s government news agency IRNA said those reports were untrue, accusing the U.S. of making "excessive" demands, frequently shifting positions, and that the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports and use of "threatening rhetoric" have consistently obstructed negotiation progress.

"Under such circumstances, there is no bright prospect for fruitful negotiations," IRNA said in a post on Telegram, without citing any specific official or institution.

This stance came after two other Iranian media outlets linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) also expressed skepticism about Iran’s participation in the talks.

So far, there has been no confirmation on whether senior Iranian officials will take part in the negotiations, nor has any named Iranian official publicly clarified Iran’s position.
