The Iranian military condemned the U.S. for firing upon and seizing an Iranian-flagged cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman, describing it as maritime robbery and a violation of the ceasefire agreement.
On 19 Apr 2026 GMT+7, the Iranian military issued a warning of retaliation after U.S. forces fired upon and seized an Iranian-flagged cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman last Sunday. The U.S. claimed the vessel attempted to breach its maritime blockade.
"The U.S., as the aggressor, has violated the ceasefire agreement and committed maritime piracy by attacking Iran's commercial vessel in the waters of the Gulf of Oman," the Iranian military said, according to IRIB, the Iranian government television station, via its Telegram channel.
The Iranian military added that the U.S. destroyed navigation equipment and deployed troops onto the ship's deck, clearly constituting an invasion of the vessel. "We warn that the Islamic Republic of Iran's military will retaliate and avenge this armed piracy by the U.S. very soon."
Earlier, Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that "Today, an Iranian-flagged cargo ship named Touska, nearly 900 feet long and almost the size of an aircraft carrier, tried to break through our naval blockade, and the outcome was not favorable for them."
"The U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance intercepted the Touska in the Gulf of Oman and issued appropriate warnings to stop the vessel, but the Iranian crew refused to comply. Therefore, our Navy disabled their engine room by firing upon it, causing holes. Currently, U.S. Marines have taken control of the ship."
Subsequently, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed Trump's post, stating that personnel fired multiple rounds into the engine room of the Touska to disable its propulsion system.
