Donald Trump confirmed that Israel never pressured him to wage war on Iran amid growing allegations in the country, while attacking fake news media for reporting lies and fabricated stories.
On 20 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Donald Trump, President of the United States, posted a new message on Truth Social in which he harshly criticized the media and stated that Israel never persuaded him to go to war with Iran, despite allegations from media outlets and former government officials claiming that Israel used secret channels to influence the Trump administration.
"Israel never persuaded me to go to war with Iran, but the events of 7 Oct 2023 GMT+7 only reinforced my lifelong stance that Iran must never acquire nuclear weapons," Trump’s message stated.
"I watch and read the fake news critics and various polls with disbelief: 90% of what they say is lies and fabricated stories, and those polls are rigged—just like the 2020 presidential election was stolen."
"Just like the results in Venezuela that the media refuse to discuss, the outcome in Iran will be astonishing—and if Iran’s new leader (a regime change!) is smart enough, Iran will have a great and prosperous future!"
Trump was attempting to counter the heavily discussed domestic issue that Israel used deception to lure him into an endless war in Iran.
For example, The New York Times reported that Trump’s close advisers, including General Dan Kain, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, were uneasy about Israel’s forecasts presented by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the U.S. government before the strike began.
Furthermore, Joe Kent, former head of the National Counterterrorism Center, clearly stated in his resignation letter and reiterated multiple times afterward that he believed Israel used secret channels to persuade the U.S. government to begin striking Iran to fulfill Israel’s objectives, but Trump and the White House denied these claims.
