Trump Hints He May Not Extend Iran Ceasefire Without Agreement

Donald Trump told the media that the ceasefire agreement with Iran will end this Wednesday, and it will be difficult to extend the period without reaching a deal.

On 20 Apr 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump gave a phone interview to Bloomberg News, stating that he now considers the ceasefire with Iran to end "on Wednesday evening Washington time," adding that it would be "extremely difficult" to extend it further if no agreement is reached.

"It is very unlikely that I will extend the period," Trump said. "I will not rush into a bad deal. We have plenty of time."

When asked if he expected fighting to resume immediately if both sides fail to reach a conclusion, Trump replied, "If there is no deal, I certainly expect that to happen."

Previously, Trump had shown mixed signals about whether he would extend the ceasefire with Iran. During a press Q&A last week, he was asked five times about extending the ceasefire and gave three different types of responses to those questions.

Trump’s remarks came amid ongoing uncertainty about the possibility of a second round of talks between the U.S. and Iran. Trump said the U.S. delegation is traveling to Pakistan for negotiations, but Iran insists there are currently no plans to talk with the U.S.
