Hungarys Incoming Prime Minister Says Netanyahu Could Be Arrested if He Visits the Country

Hungary's incoming prime minister revealed that Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu would be arrested if he traveled to his country, as he is subject to an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court.

On 20 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Peter Marjai, Hungary's incoming prime minister, stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would be arrested if he visited Hungary due to an outstanding warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

“If a country is a member of the International Criminal Court and a person with an arrest warrant enters our territory, that person must be detained,” Marjai told reporters on Monday.

The incoming Hungarian leader also said he has informed Netanyahu of his intention to fully reintegrate Hungary into the ICC system.

Currently, acting Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has developed close ties with Netanyahu's Israeli government and led Hungary’s withdrawal from the ICC, later hosting Netanyahu's visit to Budapest in 2025.

Meanwhile, both Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant have been named in ICC arrest warrants issued in 2024 for war crimes during the Gaza conflict. Both deny the charges and maintain their innocence.
