Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman revealed that the Tehran government has not yet decided whether to join talks with the United States in Pakistan, due to the U.S.'s several contradictory actions.
On 21 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry, stated that his country has not yet decided whether to participate in talks with the U.S. in Pakistan. He affirmed that their hesitation is not due to indecisiveness but results from contradictory actions by the U.S.
“The reason is not indecisiveness, but rather conflicting messages, contradictory behavior, and unacceptable actions by the American side,” Baghaei said, according to Iranian official media reports.
Baghaei said Iran will decide on joining the talks “whenever those talks genuinely focus on outcomes,” while condemning the U.S. for attacking Iranian ships, describing it as a “serious violation of international law” as well as “maritime robbery and state-sponsored terrorism.”
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman also stated that the U.S. is “shifting blame while itself violating ceasefires and failing to comply with key agreements, including the ceasefire in Lebanon.”
Baghaei's remarks came after Attaullah Tarar, Pakistan's Minister of Information, said earlier this morning that Pakistan is still awaiting official confirmation from Iran on whether it will join the peace talks with the U.S. in Islamabad this week.
