Donald Trump revealed that the conflict with Iran has "no set timeline" and denied reports that political issues are influencing his decisions.
On 22 Apr 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump gave an interview to Martha MacCallum of Fox News, stating there is "no time pressure" regarding the ceasefire agreement with Iran, which he had just extended on Tuesday afternoon, nor regarding the timing of new peace talks.
When asked when the war would end, Trump replied there is no set timeline and no need to rush. Early in the renewed conflict, Trump had estimated it would last about four to six weeks; however, the conflict has now entered its seventh week.
"People say I want it to end because of the midterm elections, which is not true at all," Trump said, adding that the administration wants to "achieve the best deal for the American people."
Trump pledged to continue the blockade of Iranian ports despite extending the ceasefire period without specifying an end date. He continues to pressure Tehran to present a unified proposal to revive negotiations.
However, CNN reported that as of Tuesday evening, the U.S. government had yet to receive any response from Iranian officials.
