China-Cambodia Hold First 2+2 Strategic Cooperation Meeting to Strengthen Political and Security Ties

China and Cambodia inaugurated their first-ever "2+2" strategic cooperation mechanism meeting, with the foreign ministers and defense ministers of both countries sitting together to discuss enhancing political and security cooperation.

On 22 Apr 2026 GMT+7, representatives from China and Cambodia convened the inaugural "2+2" strategic cooperation mechanism meeting, led by their respective foreign and defense ministers to advance political and security collaboration.

Wang Yi, Foreign Minister, and Tong Jihua, Defense Minister of China, led the talks alongside Cambodia's Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and Defense Minister Tea Seiha.

This discussion was initiated by Chinese President Xi Jinping during his official visit to Cambodia in April last year. Its purpose is to strengthen relations and elevate the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations, build upon existing cooperation frameworks, and exchange views on peace, security, and regional stability.
