Iranian Foreign Minister Arrives in Pakistan as US Envoy Prepares for Talks to Restart Ceasefire Negotiations

Iran's Foreign Minister arrived in Islamabad to discuss the regional situation, while the US special envoy is preparing to travel to Pakistan in hopes of reviving a new round of peace negotiations with Iran.

On 24 April 2026, the Associated Press reported that the Iranian delegation, led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, arrived in Islamabad, Pakistan, last night (24 Apr). They were welcomed by Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Army Commander General Azim Munir, and senior officials.

Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Araghchi would hold talks with senior leaders to discuss the regional situation and efforts to promote peace and stability.

Meanwhile, White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt said that President Donald Trump's special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, will travel to Pakistan on Saturday morning to join efforts to negotiate with Iran. She noted that Iran wants to open talks, and Vice President J.D. Vance is preparing to participate if the discussions progress.

However, Esmail Baqaei, spokesperson for Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated there are currently no plans for direct negotiations between Iran and the US. Iran will communicate its position only through Pakistan.
