Trump Cancels Sending Delegation to Pakistan, Cites U.S. Upper Hand and Readiness for Direct Calls

Donald Trump revealed he has canceled sending a delegation to negotiate with Iran in Pakistan, asserting that the U.S. holds all the leverage and Iran can call anytime, making it unnecessary to gather for pointless talks.

On 25 Apr 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump told Fox News that he had canceled the scheduled meeting between his delegation and the Iranian side in Islamabad, Pakistan's capital, after both sides had planned talks to seek an end to the war in the Middle East.

“I just told my people moments ago as they were preparing to depart, 'No, you don’t have to fly 18 hours to get there,'” Trump said. “We hold all the cards. They can call us whenever they want, but you won’t have to make an 18-hour round trip to sit around discussing nonsense anymore.”

The U.S. delegation was led by Steve Witkoff, the White House special envoy, along with Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law.

This latest development occurred as Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, recently departed Pakistan after holding discussions with senior officials on Middle East war issues.
