Donald Trump confirmed that his cancellation of sending a delegation to negotiate with Iran in Pakistan is not a signal that the U.S. will resume attacks on Iran.
On 25 Apr 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that canceling plans to send a delegation to negotiate with Iranian officials in Pakistan, which he had previously mentioned in an interview with Fox News, does not mean the U.S. will return to war.
“No, it does not mean that. We haven't even thought about that,” Trump said in a phone conversation with Barak Ravid, a reporter from Axios and CNN analyst, after being asked if the decision not to send special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, his son-in-law, to Pakistan should be interpreted as a step toward renewed conflict.
Earlier, Trump posted on Truth Social that the reason he canceled sending the U.S. delegation to Pakistan was due to internal conflicts among Iranian leaders, who he claimed were divided.
“I just ordered the cancellation of the trip by representatives to Islamabad, Pakistan, to meet with the Iranians. Too much travel, too much work! Moreover, there is serious internal conflict and confusion among their ‘leaders,’” he wrote.
“No one knows who is really in charge, not even themselves. Besides, we hold all the cards, and they have none! If they want to talk, all they have to do is call!!!” Trump posted on social media.
Meanwhile, last Friday, the U.S. White House announced that the U.S. delegation would travel to Islamabad this weekend to negotiate with Iranian representatives, with Trump telling Reuters, “We are talking to the group that currently holds power.”
However, just one day earlier, Trump told reporters in the White House's Oval Office that the U.S. was not sure who the real leader of Iran actually was.
