Russia Launches 600 Drones in Major Attack on Ukraine, Killing at Least 7

Russia launched more than 600 drones in a large-scale attack on Ukraine, resulting in at least 7 deaths and damage to several buildings. Meanwhile, Ukraine carried out its deepest strike ever into Russian territory.

Foreign news agencies reported that Russia sent over 600 drones in the largest wave of attacks in several days late Friday into early Saturday, 25 Apr 2026 GMT+7, killing at least 7 people. Among them, 5 died in the central city of Dnipro after a building was directly hit.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed that this latest wave of attacks lasted "almost the entire night," while rescue teams continued searching for survivors beneath rubble in Dnipro on Saturday.

Russian missiles and drones also targeted the northern city of Chernihiv, where officials reported 2 deaths, as well as the cities of Odesa and Kharkiv.

Ukrainian authorities stated they managed to intercept the majority of the over 600 Russian drones, which appeared to be the largest attack in recent days.

"Russia’s tactics have not changed; they continue to use drones, cruise missiles, and a massive number of guided missiles," Zelensky said. "Most targets are civilian infrastructure in cities, including residential buildings, energy systems, and various facilities that have been damaged."

Additionally, reports indicated that British jets were scrambled from Romania during the heavy attack after Russian drones were detected near the border. However, the UK Ministry of Defence denied claims that they shot down any of the drones.

At the same time, Ukraine launched drone strikes deep into Russian territory for the first time, hitting the city of Yekaterinburg nearly 1,600 km from the Ukrainian border. The regional governor reported 6 people injured there. A strike near nearby Chelyabinsk was intercepted.

The Russian Ministry of Defence announced it shot down 127 drones covering more than 10 regions and said its forces took control of the village of Bochkove in the Kharkiv region on Saturday morning.

The village is near Ukraine’s northern border with Russia, where Moscow has repeatedly attempted to advance southward toward the city of Kharkiv.
